Getting started with WP SEO Agent takes about ten minutes, and you do not need any SEO experience to do it. This guide walks you through the four steps from a fresh install to your first set of recommendations: install the plugin, connect your site, sync your pages, and run your first audit.
Before you start
You will need two things: a WordPress website (version 6.0 or higher, running PHP 7.4 or higher), and the API key from your welcome email. If you have not signed up yet, you can choose a plan first. Everything below happens inside your own WordPress dashboard.
Step 1: Install and activate the plugin
From your WordPress admin, go to the Plugins screen, choose to add a new plugin, and upload the WP SEO Agent plugin file you downloaded from your member portal. Activate it once the upload finishes.
A new WP SEO Agent menu appears in your left sidebar, marked with the owl icon. That menu is home base for everything the agent does.
Step 2: Connect your site with your API key
Open the WP SEO Agent settings, paste in the API key from your welcome email, and confirm the connection. When it connects successfully, a banner at the top confirms your site, your plan, and your plugin version, so you always know you are linked up.
Step 3: Sync your published pages
Still in settings, run the page sync. The agent reads your published content so it knows what it is working with. A progress bar shows how far along it is, and finishes with a simple confirmation once it is done.
Your homepage is always included. On larger sites, the agent syncs your pages first, then products, then posts, up to your plan’s limit. You do not need every post tracked. The point is to choose the pages that matter for search and focus there.
Step 4: Create a project and run your first audit
Go to your SEO Projects dashboard and create your first project by choosing a keyword you want to rank for and the page that should rank for it. Then run the audit. The agent analyses your content, checks your rankings, studies what your competitors are doing, and builds your personalised plan. This usually takes a minute or two.
When it finishes, you get a set of prioritised recommendations, each one showing you what to change and, in most cases, the content already written for you to copy across.
What happens next
From here, your agent keeps working in the background. It checks your rankings every week, watches your competitors, and tells you what to focus on. Your job is to work through the recommendations at a steady pace, apply a few changes, give the search engines time to catch up, and let the results build.
Once you are set up, a good next step is to understand how your first SEO project is scored, and how to read your ranking chart so you can see progress clearly.
Frequently asked questions
How long does setup take?
Most people are from install to their first audit in under ten minutes. The audit itself runs in a minute or two.
Do I need to know SEO to set this up?
No. Every step happens inside WordPress with plain-English prompts, and the recommendations that follow come with instructions and ready-to-use content.
Will it work with my theme and other plugins?
Yes. WP SEO Agent works with any WordPress theme and popular page builders, and it runs alongside WooCommerce, Yoast, and RankMath rather than replacing them.
How many pages can I track?
That depends on your plan, and you choose which pages matter most. You do not need to track every post on your site to get results.
